Summary

Parallel linear banks and drains, of unknown date and function, are visible as cropmarks and low earthworks on aerial photographs and visualised lidar data. It is possible that they are late post medieval or modern drains, perhaps field drains or associated with the Second World War airfield (NHER 7275) to their north. Their appearance, however, does not entirely fit with what might be expected for either of these interpretations, and an earlier and/or more archaeologically significant origin cannot be ruled out. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017) it is probable that the earthworks still survive.

Map

Parallel linear banks and drains, of unknown date and function, are visible as low earthworks and cropmarks on visualised lidar data (S1) and aerial photographs (S2). They are mainly visible within one field; a possible continuation of a ditch into the field to the east may belong to a different phase of activity or class of site. It is possible that the features are late post medieval or modern drains, perhaps field drains (as are evident in the field to the east) or associated with the Second World War airfield (NHER 7275) to their north. Their appearance, however, does not entirely fit with what might be expected for either of these interpretations, and an earlier and/or more archaeologically significant origin cannot be ruled out. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017) it is probable that the earthworks still survive.
