Full Description
September 2023. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Field boundaries and a trackway of post medieval to modern date are visible as cropmarks and earthworks on aerial photographs and visualised lidar data (S1-S3). They lie to the north of Manor House (NHER 11616), which dates to the 18th or 19th century, and they could in part relate to the landscaping and use of the surrounding area. The boundaries are all depicted on Wendling Enclosure Map of 1815 (S4); the trackway is not and may be a later feature. It is clear from the Enclosure Map that several buildings once stood on the western side of the site. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017), the two elements of the site visible as earthworks (the trackway and the sinuous ditched boundary to its northwest) may still survive.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 22 September 2023.
