Summary

Metal-detecting at this location in 2023 recovered eight medieval coins of Edward III likely to represent an accidental purse loss. The nature and condition of the coins suggest they most likely went into the ground during the 1380s.

Found within 20ft [6m] of each other:
8 medieval coins - all of Edward III and dating to between 1335 and 1377. The mix of denominations (1 groat, 6 pennies and 1 halfpenny) suggests these coins probably represent a purse loss. Their condition indicates they probably went into the ground during the 1380s (the lack of any coins of Richard II making deposition after this date unlikely).
