Full Description
Boundary wall to the south of The Old Rectory (NHER 20959).
Previously recorded under NHER 20959.
March 1985. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description excerpt:
"Boundary wall. 17th and 19th century. Red brick boundary wall in 17th-century brick laid in Flemish bond with half round coping. Central semi-circular 19th-century brick wayside pulpit built by the Rev. William Haslam (Rector 1863-1871). Haslam was a notable Evangelical preacher who built the pulpit in order to address the large crowds which assembled in the meadow opposite to hear him, the parish church being inadequate to contain the large numbers attracted to his services.
Included for group value and for historical interest of the wayside pulpit which is a rare survival."
