Map

January 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Cropmarks of a boundary ditch, of an unknown, but possible Roman or medieval to post medieval date are seen on aerial photographs (S1-S2). Metal detecting and field walking across the area have previously recovered a range of Multi-period finds (NHER 30273 and 30277) including a high density of Roman material. It has been previously suggested (see NHER 30273 and 30277) that the density of Roman finds may indicate the site of a settlement. It is therefore possible that the boundary ditch mapped by the project, could relate to the area of proposed Roman settlement. However, it is also possible that the feature may relate to a former medieval to post medieval field boundary.
