Summary

Metal-detecting at this location in 2023 recovered a small medieval coin hoard of nine silver coins likely to have been lost or deposited during the 1180s or shortly after.

Found in close proximity, "two to five inches down":
Medieval coin hoard of 9 silver coins found in 10 fragments. These coins comprise 2 pennies, 3 cut halfpennies and 2 cut quarters of pennies of Stephen (1135-1154) and 2 cut quarters of Short Cross pennies produced between the reigns of Henry II and Henry III (1154-1272). The Short Cross pennies were most likely some the earliest minted, with this hoard or purse loss probably entering the ground during the 1180s or shortly after.
