Summary

Sections of earthwork ditch, which most likely relate to a probable medieval to post medieval parish boundary, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The earthworks are not visible on the visualised lidar data from a survey flown in 2017 and have presumably been levelled. The features follow the alignment of the parish boundary between the parishes of Beeston with Bittering and Kempstone.

Sections of earthwork ditch, which most likely relate to a probable medieval to post medieval parish boundary, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (S1-S2). The earthworks are not visible on the visualised lidar data from a survey flown in 2017 (S3) and have presumably been levelled. The features follow the alignment of the parish boundary between the parishes of Beeston with Bittering and Kempstone. The alignment of the parish boundary is also depicted on the readily available historic maps such as S4. The date of the feature is unknown, although, a medieval to post medieval date is probable. The probable parish boundary ditch also runs through a dense area of field boundaries, ridge and furrow and probable settlement features associated with Kempstone medieval settlement (NHER 4083). It is possible that the parish boundary ditch may have also been used as a field boundary.
