Full Description
July-August 2023. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of new water main (Trenches 16 and 17).
Two trenches were excavated at this location, one of which revealed a cluster of three pits and an adjacent east-north-east to west-south-west aligned ditch - all of which were poorly dated.
The largest of the pits contained a sand-tempered handmade pottery sherd of Late Bronze Age to Iron Age date and a flint implement (a spurred piece) but a sample taken from this feature produced little of note. Another pottery sherd of Late Bronze Age to Iron Age date was recovered from the ditch but the two smaller pits both contained no finds.
No unstratified finds were recovered.
See reports (S1) and (S2) for further details.
