Civil Parish DISS, SOUTH NORFOLK, NORFOLK

Map

February and July 2020. Watching Brief.
Maintained during groundworks associated with construction of three new residential dwellings.
Ground reduction to create a level terrace for the new buildings revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. Finds were limited brick and tile fragments of late post-medieval date.
The drop in ground level between the adjacent street and The Mere to the south is particularly marked at this location (a fall of approximately 6m over a distance of just under 50m), which is likely to have limited past activity.
See report (S1) for further details. See also photographic archive (S2).
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2021.49).
P. Watkins (HES), 30 April 2024.
