Monitoring of works undertaken as part of River Wensum Restoration Scheme.
Groundworks at this location were subject to particularly close attention as it is where the river is crossed by the line of a Roman road (NHER 3697) - the likely position of which is indicated by a low broad rise within Norman Burrow’s Wood. No river works took place in the immediate vicinity of the Roman road, but an adjacent ditch was cleaned out. No archaeologically-significant features or deposits were observed and no finds were recovered.
See report (S1) for further details.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2018.359).
