Summary

The cropmarks of probable medieval to post medieval field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs. The features most likely relate to medieval to post medieval agriculture, possibly relating to more than one phase of activity. It is possible that some of the features may date to the medieval period and could relate to strip fields. Equally it is possible that the features could relate to post medieval field boundaries.

Map

The cropmarks of probable medieval to post medieval field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). The features most likely relate to medieval to post medieval agriculture, possibly relating to more than one phase of activity. It is possible that some of the features may date to the medieval period and could relate to strip fields. Equally it is possible that the features could relate to post medieval field boundaries. The cropmarks of geological features are visible across the area on the consulted sources (S1-S2) as well as post medieval to modern drainage ditches in the surrounding area. It Is therefore possible that some of the mapped feature could be natural in origin or possibly relate to former drainage ditches. The features are not recorded on the readily accessible historic maps such as S3-S4. It is possible that the boundary ditch centred at TF 9867 0938 could relate to a post medieval field boundary recorded on the tithe map, on a similar alignment, approximately 20m to the west.
