Summary

A series of linear ditches, sections of bank and a possible sunken area or hollow, of an unknown but probable medieval to post medieval date, are seen as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs. The majority of the features are not visible on the relatively recent (2017) visualised lidar data and are presumed to have been levelled or possibly survive as very low earthworks. Some of the features can be seen as cropmarks on recent (2022) aerial photographs. The features may relate to post medieval drainage. However, it is possible that some of the features could relate to medieval to post medieval field boundaries.

A series of linear ditches, sections of bank and a possible sunken area or hollow, of an unknown but probable medieval to post medieval date, are seen as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs S1-S5 and S7. The majority of the features are not visible on the relatively recent (2017) visualised lidar data (S6) and are presumed to have been levelled or possibly survive as very low earthworks. Some of the features can be seen as cropmarks on recent (2022) aerial photographs (S7). The features may relate to post medieval drainage. However, it is possible that some of the features could relate to medieval to post medieval field boundaries. A sunken area or hollow is visible in the northeast of the area (centred at TF 9844 0941). It is uncertain as to whether this feature is archaeological in origin or relates to a natural or drainage feature. As the origin of the feature is uncertain the hollow or sunken area has been mapped by extent. The features are not recorded on the readily available historic maps such as S8 and S9.
