Location

Map sheet TG41SW
Civil Parish STOKESBY WITH HERRINGBY, GREAT YARMOUTH, NORFOLK

Map

August 2018-October 2019. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of works to reduce the risk of flooding along the banks of the Muckfleet.
An infilled drainage ditch was visible in the sides and base of a new dyke at c. TG 42271 11769. This feature appears to correspond with a boundary shown at this location on the Stokesby with Herringby tithe map (S1), with aerial photographs demonstrating that the ditch had been infilled at some time between 1946 and 1988. Its regular profile suggests that it had been recut by machine towards the end of its life.
No finds were recovered.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
