Full Description
May 2020-January 2021. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area 221).
This survey identified nothing of definite archaeological interest.
The most notable response is a large discrete area of magnetic disturbance that potentially represents an area of former quarrying.
A number of scattered discrete dipolar anomalies are likely to represent ferrous objects on or close to the surface (most likely modern debris). The remaining discrete anomalies are all of probable geological origin.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 18 September 2024.
October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F221; Trenches 351 and 352).
A trench positioned to coincide with part of the large discrete anomaly recorded by the preceding geophysical survey revealed a large undated pit. A trench to the west uncovered a north-to-south aligned ditch, the fill of which contained fragments of undiagnostic ceramic building material. The fact this ditch was parallel to the extant field boundaries suggests it was most likely of relatively recent date.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 18 September 2024.
