NHER 65966 (Monument record) - Post-medieval and undated ditches and undated quarry pit

Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F224).
This survey identified a group of three linear anomalies that potentially represent infilled ditches. These include a north-to-south aligned response that clearly corresponds with a former field boundary depicted on the Reepham tithe map (S1). An adjacent linear anomaly aligned slightly more north-north-west to south-south-east potentially represents an element of an earlier field system. This probable ditch appears to turn to the east close to the south-eastern edge of the site and is potentially contemporary with a roughly east-to-west aligned linear anomaly to the west.
A large amorphous area of magnetic disturbance at the northern end of the site is likely to represent an area of former quarrying.
A number of scattered discrete dipolar anomalies are likely to represent ferrous objects on or close to the surface (most likely modern debris). The remaining discrete anomalies are all of probable geological origin.

Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F224; Trenches 355 and 356).
One of the two trenches excavated at this location was positioned to investigate the group of linear anomalies identified by the preceding geophysical survey. This revealed a north-to-south aligned ditch that clearly corresponds with the former field boundary shown on the Reepham tithe map (S1). There was however no evidence for sub-surface remains associated with the two other linear anomalies. Although an east-to-west aligned ditch was recorded this was a little way to the south of the similarly aligned anomaly.
A trench positioned to coincide with the large area of magnetic disturbance recorded at the northern end of the site revealed a large pit, confirming that this anomaly represents an area of former quarrying. No finds were recovered from this feature.
