Full Description
October 2017-March 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area 62).
This survey identified no potentially archaeologically-significant responses.
A number of scattered dipolar anomalies were probably caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface (most likely modern debris). The remaining discrete anomalies are thought to be of probable natural, geological origin.
The was no evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with a group of linear cropmarks known to correspond with the route of a former trackway (NHER 29565). There was also evidence for a surviving ditches with two linear cropmarks likely to represent former post-medieval field boundaries – one aligned north-to-south and the other north-east to south-west. These had been identified by an initial aerial imagery assessment of the probable cable route, although only the latter was mapped during the subsequent Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project (part of a group recorded as NHER 64269).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.

October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (F163; Trenches 122 and 123).
Two trenches were excavated at this location, one of which was positioned to coincide with linear cropmarks known to correspond with the line of a former post-medieval trackway (NHER 29565). This trench revealed two east-north-east to west-south-west aligned ditches likely to be related to this routeway, along with an undated pit.
A trench to the west exposed a north-to-south aligned ditch and a pit with a dark, charcoal-rich fill - neither of which produced any dating evidence. A sample from the fill of the pit produced a significant amount of charcoal (predominantly oak) but nothing else in the way of plant macrofossils or other debris.
This ditch corresponded with another of the linear cropmarks identified by the initial aerial imagery assessment (see NHER 64269).
No finds were recovered.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
