Map

October 2017-March 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area 110).
This survey identified nothing of potential archaeological significance.
A north-east to south-west aligned linear anomaly at the southern end of the site corresponds with a former field boundary depicted on the Knapton tithe map (S1). A number of perpendicular linear anomalies are thought to be the result of relatively recent agricultural activity.
A number of scattered discrete dipolar anomalies are likely to represent ferrous objects on or close to the surface (most likely modern debris). The remaining discrete anomalies are all of probable geological origin.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 14 October 2024.

October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms (Area F076; Trenches 544 and 545).
Two trenches were excavated at this location, the southernmost of which exposed three parallel north-west to south-east aligned ditches, none of which produced any dating evidence.
No unstratified finds were recovered.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 14 October 2024.
