Summary

A watching brief maintained during limited groundworks at this site in 2020 recorded no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. The small number of unstatified finds recovered were all of late post-medieval to modern date.

September 2020. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of swimming pool enclosure.
The footing trenches excavated for this new building revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits.
A natural yellow sand deposit was encountered at a depth of c.1.40m. This was overlain by a particularly thick subsoil layer.
A small assemblage of late post-medieval to modern pottery was recovered during this work, along with bottle glass of a similar age and a single piece of clay tobacco pipe stem.
