Map

In early 2018 a member of the public noted evidence for World War Two anti-tank obstacles at this location [1]. A chequerboard arrangement of 15 square marks visible in frost on the modern road surface were almost certainly 'ghost sockets' - marking the positions of concrete sockets for straight or bent iron rails. These were subsequently added to the 'Extended Defence of Britain Online' dataset (S1).
The exact location of these sockets can be determined from a photograph taken by another member of the public in 2020 [2].
