Summary

A test pit was dug at this location in 2017 as part of the Norfolk Archaeological Trust's 'Imagined Land' project. Finds recovered included Mesolithic, Mesolithic/Early Neolithic and Neolithic/Bronze Age worked flints; Iron Age, Roman, Late Saxon, medieval, medieval/post-medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; post-medieval brick and tile fragments and undatable animal bones.

April 2017. Test Pit.
Excavation of test pit as part of the Norfolk Archaeological Trust's 'Imagined Land' project - a community archaeology project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (Test Pit 1).
A natural geological deposit was encountered at a depth of 0.85m, overlain by a sequence of silty sand subsoil deposits. Finds recovered included:
6 undatable animal bones.
1 Mesolithic flint bladelet.
1 Mesolithic/Early Neolithic blade-like flint flake.
3 Neolithic/Bronze Age flint shatter fragments and 1 chip.
1 Early/Middle Iron Age pottery sherd.
7 Roman pottery sherds.
2 Late Saxon pottery sherds.
4 medieval pottery sherds.
2 late medieval/early post-medieval pottery sherds.
1 post-medieval pottery sherds, 3 roof tile fragments and 1 brick fragment.
A Neolithic/Bronze Age flint flake was also recovered from the surface of a flower bed adjacent to the test pit.
