Summary

A test pit dug at this location in 2017 as part of the Norfolk Archaeological Trust's 'Imagined Land' project revealed a linear feature containing Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age pottery. Unstratified finds included potentially Mesolithic/Early Neolithic and Late Neolithic/Bronze Age worked flints; undatable burnt flints and post-medieval/modern ceramic building material. A non-systematic metal-detecting survey undertaken at the same time recovered a post-medieval coin, a post-medieval buckle and a World War Two bullet.

This test pit encountered a firm natural clay deposit at a depth of 0.5m and exposed a north-to-south ditch or gully. The fill of this feature had occasional flecks of charcoal and burnt clay and produced two small abraded grog-tempered pottery sherds of likely prehistoric date.

2 ?Mesolithic/Early Neolithic flint flakes.
Late Neolithic/Bronze Age notched flake, possible burin, broken pebble used as adhoc scraper and burnt flake.
6 post-medieval/modern brick fragments and 2 ?roof tile fragments.

A non systematic metal-detecting survey of the surrounding playing field by the students recovered:
1 post-medieval coin and a buckle.
World War Two bullet (.50 cal).
