Map

April 2018. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The five trenches excavated revealed remains that appeared to be predominantly of relatively recent date. These included a several brick wall footings in the easternmost trench, which were almost certainly associated with the barn standing immediately to the west - corresponding with now demolished structures that can be seen projecting from the eastern side of this building on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25-inch map (S1). Other features recorded included two north-east to south-west aligned ditches, one of which produced a medieval pottery sherd and a pantile fragment of 18th- to 20th-century date. Brick of a similar age was recovered from one of two post-holes identified. A pit containing modern rubbish was also exposed.
