Summary

The site of an early 17th-century house, constructed by Roger Drury after purchasing the land in 1590. The site was originally part of Blackfriars Friary (NHER 4266) before the friary was dissolved in 1538 and the land sold. Drury House was damaged in World War Two and demolished in 1969. The staircase is now in Blickling Hall (NHER 5115).

Site of Drury House.
Drury House was an early 17th-century townhouse built by Roger Drury. Roger Drury purchased the land after the dissolvement of the Blackfriars Friary who had occupied the site previously (NHER 4266). Drury House was four storeys tall, including an attic floor. The house was damaged by a bomb in World War Two and subsequently demolished in 1969, despite an appeal by Great Yarmouth Historical Buildings Ltd and the Great Yarmouth and District Archaeological Service (S2). The staircase from Drury House was moved to Blickling Hall (NHER 5115) prior to demolition.
