Map

February 2015. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The three trenches excavated revealed three pits and two ditches, the majority of which were undated. The one exception was a north-to-south aligned ditch that contained a lower fill of reused and broken post-medieval ceramic building material - presumably dumped to allow it to function as a French drain or soakaway. The feature appears to have coincided with a former plot boundary shown on the Great Ellingham tithe map (S1). The second ditch was an east-to-west aligned feature that produced a single fragment of undatable ceramic building material. It is thought that the three undated discrete features recorded were most likely small extraction pits.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
