Map

March 2023. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on route of proposed West Winch Housing Access Road (Section 10).
The only response of note is a partial sub-circular anomaly of uncertain origin in the southern part of the site.
Various other linear anomalies are the result of recent agricultural activity and scattered discrete ferrous anomalies were probably caused by ferrous objects on or close to the surface (most likely modern debris). The latter were concentrated in the north-west part of the site, in the vicinity of Burwick House and Ivy Cottage.
See report (S1) for further details.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2023.118).

April-May 2025. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on route of proposed West Winch Housing Access Road (Trench 183).
The single trench excavated at this location was positioned to target the sub-circular anomaly of uncertain origin recorded by the preceding geophysical survey. No associated sub-surface remains were identified.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
