Full Description
1956. Stray Find.
Found by [1] in topsoil of Pointer's Gravel Pit off Guntons Lane (south side of field, about 100yrds [90m] stretch):
Flint flakes, core and pot boilers. Donated to Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1956.88).
Information from (S1). Although these finds were originally noted on (S1) as being ?Neolithic this was subsequently amended to Meso/Neo. It is unclear why this change was made. These finds were examined by R. Jacobi who recorded that there was no evidence for them being Mesolithic. Information from (S2). According to Jacobi the assemblage comprises:
19 flakes, 4 blades, 1 single-platform core (on butt end of large flake/blade), 1 multi-platform core and 4 burnt stones.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 18 March 2014.
1964. Stray Find.
According to a note on (S1) a number of prehistoric flint flakes were found here by [2] in 1964.
E. Rose (NAU). Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 18 March 2014.
The record was previously mapped to the grid reference given on (S1) (TG 192 111). However it is clear from aerial photographs and cartographic sources that the Guntons Lane pits lay a little to the south-east of this location. The mapped extent of this record has therefore been corrected.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 18 March 2014.
