Summary

A geophysical survey of this site in 2016 identified two adjoining linear anomalies that potentially represented ditches associated with former field boundaries. A watching brief maintained during the installation of a new water pipeline in 2017 recorded no archaeologically-significant remains at this location, although it is unclear if conditions were conducive to the identification of archaeological remains.

Map

February 2016. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Poringland to Whitlingham Rising Main pipeline (Field 23).
This survey identified an intermittent north-to-south aligned linear anomaly from which a perpendicular linear anomaly extends to the west. These responses potentially represent ditches associated with former field boundaries.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.

This site was selected for monitoring due to the presence of the linear anomalies identified by the preceding geophysical survey.
No archaeologically-significant remains were recorded and no finds recovered.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 10 October 2025.
