Full Description
February-June 2022. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with internal and external alterations to the existing 18th-century stables (NHER 45516).
The excavation of a narrow drainage run revealed only a well-constructed brick drain of late 18th- to 19th-century date at TM 2245 9888. In the vicinity of the stables the trench encountered only soil layers and rubble.
A rapid metal-detector survey of the area of a proposed carpark to the north of the stables recovered a late post-medieval button, a post-medieval buckle and a lead musket ball.
See report (S1) for further details.
