Full Description
April 1978.
In fact octagonal; doors surrounded by sunken frames and surmounted by lunettes alternate with recessed square panels with oval panels above. Central group of chimneys. Brick. 18th century. Later rear extension.
(S1) call it a former tollhouse ('marked as such in 1840 tithe map') but on (S2) marked only as 'cottage and garden'.
Not a tollhouse, as (S3) makes clear.
(S4) seems to suggest it may have been a lodge for Costessey Old Hall, a building on site of present Lodge Farm.
E. Rose (NAU), 26 April 1978.
June 1983. Card redone.
(S5) lists the locations of the tollhouses and the first from Norwich was 'at the two mile stone'. The roundhouse is at the four mile stone.
E. Rose (NAU), 28 May 1993.
March 1987.
(S6) (in file) mentions three 'beehive' lodges to Costessey Park, one of which was 'at the Roundwell public house'. Could this be that lodge?
E. Rose (NAU), 14 March 1997.
September 2005.
Colourwashed brick. 20th century wings.
See (S1).
D. Robertson (NLA), 9 September 2005.
March 2009.
Proposal to construct a two-storey extension.
See (S7) and (S8)
H. White (NLA), 23 April 2009
