Summary

A medieval flint and mortar well, a possible tomb structure and fragments of a coffin slab and quern were found near St Andrew's church (NHER 8379) in 1959.

1959. South of St. Andrew's Church Hempstead. Circular flint and mortar well. Fragment of coffin slab found close by. Flint and mortar structure (?tomb) 2.5m by 1.4m (8 feet by 4 feet 6 inches) with single stone slab on top, covering
deep cavity; fragment of Purbeck marble mortar and lava quern and foundations.
