Summary

This church was built in the late 14th century. It probably stands on the same site as an earlier church. Bits of this earlier building have been reused within the present structure. The present chancel does not seem to fit with the rest of the building and it may have been rebuilt after the Dissolution. Outside is a monument to John Bygrove, 1818, and Richard Stone, 1796. Undated wall footings, a piece of Middle Saxon pottery and a prehistoric flint tool were found when a trench was dug in the churchyard.

Full Description

Parish church.
Late 14th century Decorated to Perpendicular overlap. Chancel rebuilt perhaps at Dissolution. Font early 14th century. Some worked stones from older building. Good 13th century carved coffin slab and 16th century tomb. Tomb in yard 1768 to 1818. A separate chapel is said to have stood in the yard.
