Summary

Aerial photographs of this area show the soilmarks of a linear feature. It has been suggested that this might be the line of a causeway through the marsh. Alternatively, it could be a drain that feeds a drainage pump where it reaches the River Bure. The uncertain function of this feature makes assigning a date difficult.

Map

Soil mark of linear feature on OS vertical aerial photographs (72.001.004).
?Line of causeway through marsh.
A. Gregory (NAU).

1946. RAF aerial photograph.
Shows linear feature - repositioned as on 10,000 extracts. This looks more like an earlier drain feeding a drainage pump where it reaches the Bure, possibly then disused after present drain layout established and/or the construction of the new cut or the Ward.
One probably associated enclosure (flat pointed shape) to west.
B. Cushion (NLA) 8 June 1999.
