Summary

A medieval parish church with a 14th century nave and chancel and a late 15th to early 16th century west tower. The chancel was remodelled by Ewan Christian in the 19th century. The church became derelict during the 20th century until a programme of restoration began in the 1980s.

Full Description

Reused Norman carved stone. Nave and chancel basically first half 14th century. Tower and north porch late 15th century/ early 16th century. Chancel remodelled by Ewan Christian in 19th century, pinnacles added to tower, roofs remade etc. Derelict and gutted; all furnishings except tablets removed.

Damaged in storm. Threatened with demolition, but proposed as museum.

April 2004. Press article.
Christening planned for May 2004, the first in 50 years. Restoration work since 1987 has seen roof repairs, tower repointing and new windows. Floor repairs planned.

The roof, stained glass windows and the floor have been fully restored. The walls are due to be replastered and lime washed.
