Full Description
1874.
Scramasax of broad type found with alleged Roman pottery, Merton Hall. 26.7cm (10 1/2 inches) long by 3.18cm (1 1/4 inches) maximum width.
Probably found north of Merton Wood (possibly from one of tumuli on Sparrow Hill?).
Drawing (S1) in the Illustration Library.
[1] notes that the pottery is perhaps Roman. Couldn't be found in 1939. Is the pottery Late Saxon?
(S2).
R.R. Clarke (NCM).
