Summary

In 1970 a flint and mortar lined well located here was destroyed during the laying of a pipe. The well was filled in but had no evidence to date it. However, this well has been identified as the Ashby Well marked on a map of 1681 which would make it post medieval in date.

1970. Near Ashby Mere.
Flint and mortar lined well about 1.2m (4ft) internal diameter destroyed in laying pipe. Lies just to east of pipeline. Was filled in when found. No idea of date. Top foot or so broken off - rest may be intact beneath.
Source (S1) identifies with Ashby Well marked on map of 1681.
