Full Description
According to (S1) Great Melton is listed in (S2) as having produced "microliths" prior to 1935. This does however appear to be something of a misreading of (S2). Although Great Melton is noted, it is one of several parishes that are simply listed as having produced "…odd [Mesolithic] specimens…". The natures of these arefacts is not specified. It is possible that this is a reference to NHER 9257, a Neolithic flint mine site that also produced a number of Mesolithic flint axeheads. This suggestion is supported by the fact that this site was known to be a source of Mesolithic material at the time (S2) was written - having been noted in (S3).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 9 January 2016.
