Summary

An undated raised road ditched on both sides was recorded. The ditch section was cleaned in 1971 to reveal a hard packed sand and gravel layer that may have been the surface of the road.

Around 1971. Context 2 at 1333 0992.
South side of ditch on north side road cleaned back. Revealed 38cm (15 inches) hard packed gravel and sandy clay
over natural chalk marl - ?Road makeup? - below 23cm (9 inches) mixed sand loam and gravel ?churned up road surface? all below 61cm (24 inches) topsoil and mould.
