Full Description
1964. Stray Find.
Human skull found by [1] at a depth of 3' [1 m], about 1050 yds [1 km] north of St Mary's and St Walstan's Church. Disturbed "while bulldozing part of hillside". No other bones seen and no sign of soil having been previously disturbed. Skull probably male. Information from (S1).
This skull was most likely disturbed during the construction of buildings associated with Glen Lodge Farm (which was built after 1945). Although it was originally noted that the skull was of "medieval type" it could well be considerably older.
Potentially prehistoric worked flints found in a nearby gravel pit are now recorded under NHER 9285
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 24 March 2014.
