Summary

In 1965 a north-south track was sectioned at this location. An old roadway was found 15cm below the present surface, 3.46m wide and made of chalk which was covered with shingle in some places. No pottery was found but two small animal bones were retrieved. No date for the road or associated bones was determined.

1965. North-south track sectioned just north of ford over the River Yare
Old roadway found 15cm (6in) below present surface, 3.46m (11ft 4in) wide and made of chalk 5cm (2in) thick in centre (3.8cm (1.5in) at sides) a thin layer of shingle on top of this in places.
No pottery found but two small animal bones found in chalk of roadway.
Subsoil at about 40.6cm (16in) depth.
Plan by NCM and section approximately 137m (150yds) west-northwest of St Andrew's Church.
