Civil Parish NORWICH, NORWICH, NORFOLK

Map

Subrectangular cropmark RAF/Ordnance Survey aerial photographs from 16 April 1946 (S1).
Compiled by R. Clarke (NCM).

Originally recorded in the parish of Lakenham, now part of Norwich.

December 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The NMP survey of the available aerial photographs, including (S1), did not identify the cropmark described above. While various marks are visible on these and other aerial photographs (for example (S2)-(S3)) most seem to relate to recent agricultural activity and post medieval field boundaries and tracks; none was convincing enough as an archaeological feature to warrant mapping. The NMR record for the site (NMR TG 20 NW 162) records that a field investigation undertaken in 1954 failed to identify any surface trace of the postulated cropmark. The site has since been built over.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 4 December 2009.
