FINDS IN THE NORWICH CASTLE MUSEUM

The NCM holds a small collection of 4 worked flints that were recovered by W. G. Clarke at an unknown location in Postwick (his Site 12) at some time prior to 1926 (NWHCM : 1926.32.12). These flint are recorded by the museum as "Mesolithic/Neolithic" and include 2 blades, 1 blade core fragment (?rejuvenation flake) and 1 scraper. The scraper is noted on (S1).
Previously recorded as NHER 9650.

The NCM also holds a Neolithic flaked flint axehead that had been found by J. E. Sainty at some time prior to 1951 (NWHCM : 1959.51). Information from (S1).

FINDS IN OTHER MUSEUMS

The Cambridge University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (CUMAA) holds a small assemblage of predominantly Mesolithic worked flints that were found at an unrecorded location in Postwick (Z.15465). These flints are listed in (S2) as comprising 4 cores, 3 blades/flakes and 2 pieces with some form of secondary working. Slightly more detail is given in (S3) which lists 4 cores, 1 blade, 2 flakes and 2 retouched tools. It should be noted that one of the retouched tools is recorded is being an Upper Palaeolithic "leaf or blade" point, possibly indicating that Jacobi regarded it as an Early Upper Palaeolithic implement.
These finds were previously recorded as NHER 13334.

OTHER FINDS

Around 1846. Stray Find.
Various "bronze fibulae" (brooches) were exhibited at a meeting of the Norfolk and Norwich Archaeological Society by Goddard Johnson in 1846 (S4).

A source from the 1840s (S5) mentions "a small Roman urn...but containing only earth" and "two bronze fibulae" found together in "constructing the railway through Postwick". Dating suggests these may be the same find.
Previously recorded as NHER 9653.
