Summary

Neolithic flint flakes and a chipped flint axehead were found on the bank of the River Yare and in dredgings in 1961. Also found were fragments of deer antler.

1961. Stray Find.
From gravel spit on bank of River Yare:
1 Neolithic fragmentary chipped flint axehead. See drawing (S1).
Also humanly struck flint flakes.
Information from (S2). These discoveries were reported in (S3).
Flakes donated to Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1961.255). The axehead is possible the same object as an implement from the site that is also held by the NCM (see below).

About same spot, four fragments of deer antler found in trench dug in chalk.

Chipped flint axehead from dredgings at Whitlingham Reach ?from old flint mines discovered in 18th century.
