Summary

Dunston Hall is a Neo-Elizabethan symetrical hall of brick, constructed in three or four storeys. It was begun in 1859 by J. C. Buckler and finished by Boardman in 1878. For some time it lay derelict, but has been thoroughly restored and is now a hotel and golf course. At least two post medieval halls were present on this site before the current building.

1880s; neo-Elizabethan; by Boardman? Remarkably spiky pile with pinnacles, decorated chimneys etc, a massive building but striking and of high quality.

(S1) shows a previous hall on site.

The NAU report (S1) filed under NHER 29734 states that the Hall was begun in 1859 by J. C. Buckler and completed by Boardman in 1878. It replaces two previous post medieval halls which stood slightly to the north and east on the
site of the present Hall Farm. This report should be consulted for full details of the growth of the park layout.

It is said that the immediately preceding hall was an early 19th century copy of Blickling Hall.
