Summary

The oldest part of the hall dates from around 1600, but the hall was substantially rebuilt in the 19th century. The moat itself is medieval, but has been partly filled in by the rebuilding of the hall. In about 1890 a 12th century chess piece was found in the moat. The garden walls, with projecting bastions, and an octagonal summerhouse with pedimented windows both date to around 1600 and are part of the original formal gardens which surrounded the hall.
