Full Description
November 1977. Visited.
In drainage trench, layer of black soil with charcoal and burnt flint, seen on either side of 2m wide north to south trench.
Depth 1.50m, edge not visible but extended at least 3m to north.
Stratification; topsoil 40cm, sandy clay 1.10cm (this layer throughout whole length of trench and appeared as natural at first) black soil 15cm, chalky clay with flints unknown depth but in places lying on bedded gravel.

Further work did not reveal this feature again, but one Roman sherd found
by [1].
June 1980.
The sherd is in fact medieval, reddish fabric (Identified by A. Gregory NCM). Also two flints; one struck flake, one worked flake.
February-November 1993. Watching Brief. Contexts 2-15.
Brundall to Whitlingham Rising Main (Field 4996).
Initial fieldwalking and metal-detecting where possible, followed by observation of stripped easement and, where deemed necessary, monitoring of the excavation of the pipe trench itself.
A dark layer was seen in the pipe trench. No other features were observed.
Finds recovered include:
Prehistoric work flints.
Late Saxon pottery sherds.
Medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds and brick and tile.
