Summary

A Bronze Age copper alloy socketed axehead was found at this location in 1964. Metal-detecting between 2010 and 2022 recovered Late Iron Age, Roman, Late Saxon, and medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval jettons; post-medieval tokens and a range of other, undatable and Late Bronze Age to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include an undatable cast lead bar; two Late Bronze Age socketed axeheads; a Late Iron Age/early Roman brooch; Roman brooches, a molten harness fitting fragment and a furniture stud; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; medieval thimbles, a casket key, rotary key, mount, unidentified copper alloy object, lead pot mend, lead spindle whorl, lead weight and lead alloy seal matrix; a medieval/post-medieval coin weight, copper alloy vessel fragment, lead weights and lead spindle whorls and a post-medieval strap or harness mount, rowel spur, sword quillons, drop handle from furniture, crotal bell and lead powder charge cap or measure. According to the finder of the Late Bronze Age axehead found in 2010 another axehead had been discovered at this location no long before but would not be reported. This means that at least four socketed axeheads have been found at this site to date - possibly indicating the presence of a dispersed hoard?
