Summary

In 1985 a 2nd century AD Roman jeweller's hoard was found during building work. It had been buried in a pot and included 110 unmounted gemstone intaglios, silver jewellery, an unfinished gold ring, silver ingots, fragments of gold and silver, 110 coins, tools and a copper alloy seal box. In 1985 an excavation revealed 2nd and 3rd century AD settlement features and evidence for iron working. Other Roman, medieval and post medieval objects were also found during the building work, by metal detecting and as casual discoveries.
