Summary

This is the site of a Roman settlement. Prehistoric flints, Roman coins and pottery, an Early Saxon brooch, medieval pottery and a post medieval seal have been found by metal detecting and field walking.

Fieldwalking. Drilled surface; medium conditions; two sub divisions.
Context 1.
Subdivision 120m east to west x 65m north to south.
Roman concentration difficult to locate but fading to south, east and west, and also north into context 2.
1.11 kilo Roman pottery predominantly, Nar Valley but including some micaceous greyware, 2 calcite gritted, 2 colour coated.
5 sherds medieval unglazed.
2 sherds and 2 bases glazed Grimston.
3 flints.
1 copper alloy sheep bell.

Context 2 area to north of context 1, 120m east to west x 35m north to south.
1 colour-coated base.
1 Roman oxidised, 12 Roman coarseware, 1 mortarium rim with illegible stamp.
2 medieval unglazed, 2 glazed Grimston BB 253.
