Summary
The foundations of a large building were ploughed up at this site in the 1970s. The building has been identified as the remains of a Late Saxon or Norman church, possibly St Mary's at Doughton, NHER 14898, but the building could also be the remains of a substantial farmhouse.

Full Description
1970s.
North of Doughton hamlet (now mostly demolished).
Large foundations ploughed up.
Said to have been identified as 'a large Saxo-Norman church' but identity of person is not known.
Could be site of Doughton Church (see NHER 14898) but informant is sceptical; could equally well have been some domestic building e.g. a large farmhouse.
