Summary

Metal-detecting here between 1988 and 2017 has recovered undatable prehistoric, Mesolithic/Early Neolithic, Early Neolithic and Neolithic worked flints; Roman, Early Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; Roman tile fragments; Iron Age, Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; post-medieval tokens; medieval and post-medieval jettons and a range of Iron Age to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include an Iron Age brooch; Roman brooches and an unidentified object; Early Saxon brooches, girdle hanger, wrist-clasp bar, wrist-clasp hook-plate, strap-end and tweezers; a Middle Saxon pin; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a Middle Saxon to medieval hooked tag; a medieval gilt probable harness bell, harness pendant and sword pommel fragment; medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel sherds and a cloth seal; a post-medieval sword-belt mount, coin weights, harness mounts, silver stud, silver cuff link, book clasp eye-plate, cloth seal and a silver vervel or hawk ring and an undated unidentified cast object. The type and quantity of Early Saxon finds recovered suggests that this was the site of an Early Saxon cemetery. An evaluation was undertaken along the route of a pipeline in 2007 but no archaeological finds or features were encountered.

5 post-medieval coins, 4 tokens, 2 jettons, 2 buckles, 1 hooked tag, 3 copper alloy buttons, 2 white-metal coated buttons, 2 dress fasteners, 1 belt fitting, 1 harness mount, 2 ?crotal bells, 1 silver cuff link, 1 lead seal matrix, 1 lead cloth seal, 1 lead weight, and 1 lead window came fragment.
